About AOMS

Aviara Oaks Middle School (AOMS) is a California Gold Ribbon School serving students in grades 6-8.  The school is located in the southern portion of the City of Carlsbad, in the Aviara development, adjacent to Aviara Oaks Elementary School.  AOMS has a current student population of 1,117 students.  With an Academic Performance Index (API) of 918, AOMS exceeds both county (814) and state (792) averages for academic performance.  

 

Aviara Oaks Middle School is also a Google Apps for Education school, utilizing tablet and Chromebook technologies in conjunction with cloud-based software in order to provide students opportunity for meaningful, real-time collaboration and the development of 21st century skills.  AOMS offers a variety of award-winning elective opportunities including drama, band, orchestra, broadcasting, photography and much more.

School Hours are 7:45 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. M T W and F; every Thur. dismissal is at 1:10 pm

 

School Colors are Purple and Black

Student schedule changes are not done unless the teacher requests or approves a placement change with the parent and the counselor or administration directs the change.

 

Lockers: Students do not have lockers for their books. They are given a complete set of books to keep at home. Lockers & padlocks are provided in PE for storage of PE clothing.  It is the responsibility of each student to ensure their assigned PE locker is LOCKED each class period.

 

Non-emergency messages:

Please understand that messages, assignments or other items cannot be delivered to students in their classes. We strive to maintain a high level of educational instruction without interruption.  Items or messages may be dropped off in the main office.  A pass will be sent to the student to pick-up the item during passing period, brunch, or lunch.

 

Cell phones & other electronic devices:

Cell phone usage is prohibited during school hours and cell phones must be turned off. If a student is caught using a cell phone during school hours, it will be confiscated. All electronic devices confiscated by a staff member may need to be retrieved by a parent. Students may use their cell phones before and after school only. 

 

Parent-Teacher Conferences are done on an as needed basis and during fall minimum days.

 

Report cards/Progress Reports;   Students hand carry their progress reports home for the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th, reporting periods. The semester grades are mailed to the students’ homes at the 3rd and 6th reporting periods. The dates are listed on the district calendar.

 

Attendance:  Attendance is taken each class period. Students are expected to be in their assigned classroom when the bell rings each period.  Students who arrive to class after the bell rings are considered tardy. Excessive tardies may result in interventions which may include detention, assignment of Saturday School or referral for SART/SARB (School Attendance Review Board).

 

School announcements are made each morning after the Pledge and are posted to the School Loop news feed and the PTSA eBlast newsletter.

 

Homework website?  www.aoms.schoolloop.com. Students and parents are encouraged to register for an account. Parents should have an account separate from the student account. School Loop provides access to parents and students to view assignment due dates, homework assignments, current grades if posted, students’ current course schedule and related school news in addition to an easy means to email teachers with questions.
